 Rahul Bhardwaj
‘Corporate Governance: Canada’s global competitive advantage'

  • When the world talks about Canada’s open society and strong institutions, what they’re really speaking about is strong governance. When a pension fund in Paris or a computer programmer from Buenos Aires place their capital or their future in Canada, they are investing in strong governance.

  • Corporate governance is not a static set of procedures but, rather, an evolving process best defined as “board leadership” and its effectiveness is measured by the trust, ease and honesty with which institutions and people deal with each other.

  • In an age of falling trust and rising de-globalization, Canada needs to marshal all the competitive advantages it can, and its governance advantage is one of its most vital differentiators.

  • Rahul Bhardwaj, the President and CEO of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), which represents Canada’s directors from the corporate, NFP and Crown sectors will discuss Canada’s corporate governance advantage. Referring to findings from the ICD’s national Director Lens Survey, Mr. Bhardwaj will examine how investing in excellent governance, including greater board diversity, deeper understandings of innovation and technology, and better oversight of corporate culture, is Canada’s best long-term strategy for growth and global competitiveness.
