Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
The Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce remembers Brian Mulroney, Canada’s 18th Prime Minister, who passed away peacefully earlier this month and whose state funeral was held in Montreal on 23 March. He led the country into NAFTA with the US and Mexico, something he referred to when he kindly addressed our members at an oversubscribed lunch at the House of Lords in May 2016 after our AGM. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
This year’s AGM is being held on 14 May and we will shortly be sending out all the paperwork to our paid current members including a resolution to vote to approve the appointment of our next Chamber President to succeed Bill Smith. The Governance Committee and Board have unanimously nominated Wayne Lee (CIBC) to be our next President, and we will be asking members to vote to approve this nomination. We do hope you will be able to participate and join us at the House of Lords lunch afterwards with our guest speaker John McCall MacBain OC, Chancellor of McGill University, and Founder of Pamoja Capital and Co-Founder and Chair of the McCall MacBain Foundation.
This month our CEO travelled to Toronto and met up with active members and contacts including Aird & Berlis; Cummning & Partners; Bell Canada; Dye & Durham; Earnscliffe; the British High Commission of Toronto; Rob Sommers; and strategic partner the British Canadian Chamber of Trade and Commerce. Our membership has recently been enhanced by our newest members: Deloitte, PureFacts Financial Solutions Inc, TELUS, and Goel Advisory and Consulting Services. Members wishing an introduction to any of those listed here, do get in touch with the Secretariat.
We also met many of our members as we supported the 14th Canada-UK Energy Summit in London, and so have decided to focus on energy this edition, with articles and news from: AtkinsRéalis, ERCE, Hatch, Rolls Royce, Anglo American, and WiRE.
Our event programme for the next few months is very busy. Coming up in March and April we have: a Member Engagement Event at Tower Suites by Blue Orchid (4 April); our 6th Canadian University Alumni Event at Canada House (11 April) and International Wine, Spirits and Beer evening at Drapers' Hall (17 April); AGM and lunch at the House of Lords (14 May); Annual Golf day (30 May) and 15th Annual Canadian Chief Economists panel debate and lunch (11 June) to name just a few – do refer to our website for more details and to register.
We are always on the look-out for bilateral commercial success stories. So if you have any you’d like to bring to our attention, then drop us a line at: info@canada-uk.org
We thank you for your continued support, are here to assist with events ideas, introductions and referrals.
Happy networking.
