Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
This week over 200 members and contacts joined us at our reception at Canada House with The Hon Mary Ng MP, Canada's Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, who was leading Canada’s first Women’s Trade Mission to the UK. The next evening many of our members attended the Welcome to the UK reception with the Rt Hon Kemi Badenoch, Secretary of State for the Department of Business and Trade. In Cambridge, Minister Ng also participated in a keynote address and armchair discussion on the current state and future outlook of Canada-UK trade relations, particularly in relation to Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. In the UK at the same time was Canada’s Chief Trade Negotiator, Doug Forsyth, who met invited members in a hybrid Business Roundtable at CIBC. The 5th round of negotiations between Canada and the UK starts 20 March.
Last week we held an excellent International Women’s Day breakfast at TD Securities on the theme of ‘Women Forging Change Through Innovation & Building a Sustainable Future’. Our inspirational Keynote speaker was Canadian entrepreneur Barb Stegemann who first became known to millions of Canadians when she landed a venture-capital deal on CBC’s hit show Dragons’ Den — the first woman from Atlantic Canada to do so. She went on to become the "Top Game Changer" in the history of the popular reality show.
We continue this edition to focus on DEI News including articles from: CIBC, TD Bank, BMO, Inclusio and the Governments of the UK & Canada.
We welcome our newest members this month: Cognitive Systems Corporation (our latest Charter member), Ivey Business School and MetaVerse tech (VBuddies World).
