Hon. René Legacy

Minister of Energy

René Legacy is a dedicated public servant and accomplished professional with decades of experience in both public and private sectors. First elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) on September 14, 2020, for the riding of Bathurst West-Beresford, he was re-elected in October 2024 to represent the redrawn riding of Bathurst. On November 4, 2024, Mr. Legacy was sworn in as Deputy Premier, Minister of Finance and Treasury Board, and Minister responsible for energy.

Born and raised in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Mr. Legacy built a distinguished career in the financial industry, spanning over 25 years. Much of this time was spent in executive roles with Caisse populaires acadiennes, later rebranded as UNI Coopération Financière. His expertise and leadership left lasting impacts on the financial services sector.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, René Legacy has been an engaged and passionate community leader. Over the years, he has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as president of the Northern New Brunswick Airport Authority and Enterprise Chaleur, vice president of the Conseil Canadien de la Coopération, and as Audit Chair of NB Liquor (ANBL). Most notably, he led the Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation’s $5M capital campaign as its chair and contributed to the revival of Bathurst Hospitality Days, serving as its president for many years. A staunch advocate for early childhood literacy, he has worked tirelessly to promote educational opportunities across the province.

Outside of his professional and public service roles, René Legacy takes the most pride in his family. Together with his wife, Brenda, he has raised three successful sons—Christopher, Brandon, and Stephen. His strong sense of community, leadership, and commitment to public service continues to shape his contributions to the people of New Brunswick.
