COP28 Breakfast

The Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce invites you to a breakfast & Panel Discussion titled 'COP28 Reflection: The Role of Canada and the UK in a Just Energy Transition' with AtkinsRealis, Hatch & Teck Resources at Canada House.

With increasing regulatory and stakeholder pressures upon governments and industry to make ambitious commitments to reduce emissions in the race to net zero, the potential social consequences of a Just Energy Transition are coming under increasing scrutiny. The invasion of Ukraine increased energy prices globally and highlighted the vulnerability of the world’s energy supplies. The British Government has faced backlash for a roll back of UK commitments to reduce financial ramifications at a household level. Thermal coal remains a critical commodity within the developing world, underpinning both livelihoods and access to power. Drawing upon the outcomes of COP28, our panel will discuss this important emerging issue, reflecting upon the critical balance between environmental objectives and the social ramifications of both action and in-action within Canada and the United Kingdom. 

This panel debate will focus upon:

1. The social consequences of Net Zero Ambitions in the West, in particular Canada and the United Kingdom

2. Supporting the transition away from thermal and metallurgical coal

3. Mining’s contribution to the Just Energy Transition in the developing world

4. The effectiveness of target setting and sustainability reporting in the Race to Net Zero

All guests must bring Photo ID and register online for this event. If you do not bring Photo ID or your name does not appear on the official guestlist you risk not being allowed access to the venue. All guests must also allow time to go through security upon entry.
