Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber,
Last month the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Canada's Minister of International Trade, and Chris Bryant, the UK's Minister for Trade, met on the edges of the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference in Cameroon. During their discussion, both Ministers highlighted the strong opportunities for Canadian and UK businesses to continue deepening their bilateral relationship, with emerging technologies and financial services identified as particularly dynamic and evolving sectors central to long-term growth in both economies. You can read more on their meeting here.
In both Canada and the UK, rapid financial innovation continues to feature prominently in government and business discussions, as policymakers and industry embrace cutting-edge technologies to strengthen competitiveness and productivity. This point was reinforced at our Charter member breakfast last week at Canada House, where High Commissioner Bill Blair emphasised the critical role of the private sector and industry-led innovation in driving sustainable economic growth. In the UK recent policy announcements and regulatory initiatives underscore a clear commitment to supporting FinTech innovation, modernising payments infrastructure, and enabling new data‑driven financial services. You can read more on UK support here.
Similarly, the Canadian FinTech ecosystem is undergoing a period of significant transformation, driven by advances in real‑time payments, open banking frameworks, artificial intelligence, and digital assets. These developments are reshaping how financial services are designed, delivered, and scaled, while creating new opportunities for cross‑border collaboration between Canadian and UK firms.
In this edition, our focus is on FinTech and the impacts of artificial intelligence and policy on the future of banking. From the adoption of increasingly centralised and interoperable systems, to the use of AI as a tool for growth, efficiency, and risk management, the articles featured below demonstrate the pace of innovation across financial technologies and how firms are adapting to new regulatory and technological realities.
