The Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce congratulates Mark Carney on his election as Leader of the Liberal Party, and Canada’s 24th Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Carney met with the Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce President Wayne Lee, and Board Directors Jaspreet Grewal and Bruce Dunlop and others on Monday, please see picture below in the newsletter. The discussion included outlining a vision for growing the Canadian economy, bilateral trade and investment opportunities, the importance of ai, critical minerals and clean energy, as well as strengthening Canada's ties with reliable allies like the UK and France.
Mr Carney is well known to the Canada-UK business community, having been Governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, publicly addressed our members on a number of occasions in the UK, and for his private charitable activity, particularly in education.
Canada and the UK being close allies with a long history of co-operation, share many values, including democracy, freedom, the rule of law and in King Charles, the same Head of State. The UK is also one of Canada's largest trading partners. With Canada's desire to increasingly diversify trade , the Canada-UK Chamber with over 100 years of successful network building is well placed to assist in this process, and we look forward to working with Mr Carney at this critical and pivotal moment for Canada and the United Kingdom.
