Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
Today is Remembrance Day, a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states and some non Commonwealth countries since the end of the Great War when we pay our respects to armed forces personnel who have died in the line of duty. At this year’s Canadian Remembrance Day service at Brookwood Cemetery, David Smith will be laying a wreath on behalf of the Chamber, as well as on behalf of his brother, our Immediate Past President Bill Smith who very sadly passed away recently. Bill was a longstanding member of the Chamber, serving as President (2021 - 2024), and Vice President and Chair of our Audit Committee for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill’s wife, Clara and his sons, Christian and Matthew and all their extended family at this difficult time. We will hold an event in Bill’s honour in the New Year together with BMO where he served as Head of International, BMO Capital Markets for many years.
In a new era of threats, natural defence partners Canada and the UK have announced they are both prioritising rebuilding the domestic production capacity and strengthening supply chains for national security and economic growth. With strategic opportunity for deeper Canada–UK defence collaboration, the Chamber is launching a new Defence, Security and Aerospace Forum, and we will be contacting and meeting members to look at events for 2026 to highlight collaboration opportunities.

With much attention on The UK Chancellor’s Autumn Budget about to be delivered on 26 November 2025, and Rachel Reeves talking about a Budget built on “fairness and opportunity” and declining to rule out tax increases, we will be holding or annual FX, Wealth & Tax evening with Trowbridge & others at Quebec House in London. All are welcome.
