Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
Since our last e-newsletter, events in Iran, the Gulf States and Middle East have been dominating the news, and as well as events in Ukraine. We are aware that some of our members are currently in the Gulf on business, including some of our Chamber Board Directors, and wish them and their families a safe passage home. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those caught up in these conflicts.
Prime Minister Mark Carney recently travelled to India and Australia to look at new trading relationships. A group of six Canadian MPs and two senators met with the High Commission of Canada and Chamber in London at Canada House last week, and we were able to confirm our own impression that Canadian companies are heeding the call to diversify and seek new markets, with queries to our Secretariat at an all-time high, and membership queries since the turn of the year keeping us very busy. Indeed, Export Development Canada's most recent survey results released in early March confirm that two-thirds of Canadian companies are planning to enter new markets, you can read more here.
Member News
We extend a warm welcome to our newest Charter member DeFi Technologies, with whom we will be organising a Symposium in early summer bringing together institutional decision-makers from asset management, private banking, pension funds, and regulatory bodies to explore the evolving digital asset landscape. Additionally, our membership of over 300 organisations has been joined by new member, AES Lawyers.
Event News
Our focus this edition is on Inclusion. The percentage parity of women in senior management is not expected until 2053, and with that in mind, our Annual International Women's Day Breakfast at The In & Out Club in London (10 March), features insights from senior business leaders who will share with us their experiences, and discuss what it takes to be a successful senior female leader in 2026 and beyond. Then, following that we are off to Toronto where we will be hosting a breakfast roundtable at S&P Global Ratings discussing Canada's economy (17 March - by invitation), and a networking evening for members and non-members (18 March). Make sure to register and come and meet us! Sign up here.
We are adding many events to our website over the next few weeks as they are confirmed, so please refer to our website.
Success Stories
We are always on the look-out for bilateral commercial success stories, such as Brookfield's new AI unit Radiant valued at $1.3bn after a merger with a UK start-up, and GSK buying Canadian Drugmaker for $950m. Drop us a line if your business would like to be featured: info@canada-uk.org
Thank you for your continued support.
Happy networking.
