Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
This edition we focus on Health & Life Sciences news. Canada and the UK have a strong life sciences relationship with agreements between both governments, joint research funding, with thriving networks of researchers, universities, and R&D-intensive companies. To strengthen these links, Canada and the UK signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Science, Technology, and Innovation (ST&I) in 2024. ‘This ST&I collaboration identified several key areas for cooperation, including quantum, AI, semiconductors, engineering biology and clean energy. Additionally, a focus on scientific diplomacy facilitates the exchange of expertise on issues such as international standards, governance, and regulation of new technologies, and help inform discussions in international forums.’ For more go to: https://www.international.gc.ca/country-pays/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/relations.aspx?lang=eng#a1
We are organising our 3rd Annual Canada-UK Life Sciences Half Day in partnership with the High Commission of Canada and AxialBridge, scheduled as an official BioIndustry Association’s (BIA) Annual London Life Sciences Week event. The event will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday, 18 November at Canada House. Our agenda begins with a light lunch/coffee/tea and registration starting at 12:00 pm, followed by presentations from two Keynote VIP Speakers and panel discussions, followed by a short reception. Discussions will cover quantum technologies' impact on healthcare, pharmaceuticals and the life sciences industry; security and sovereignty of health data; opportunities to optimise pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply chains by using quantum computing to provide more precise simulations of processes, and enhancing sensitivity and resolution in medical imaging and diagnostics; supporting earlier detection of diseases such as cancer and neurological conditions; data security & genomics and aligning policy frameworks on ethics, equity, and data protection in quantum healthcare. Do join us if you can.
