Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce President Wayne Lee congratulated Mark Carney and the Liberal Party this week on their general election victory and pledges to work in partnership with the new Government to strengthen two-way trade and investment between Canada and the UK. “Congratulations to Mark Carney and the Liberal Party on their election victory. Our bilateral Chamber is ready to assist the new Canadian government unlock international investment, help expand markets for Canadian exporters, work together on defence and security, increase Canada’s competitiveness, and help shape emerging regulatory frameworks. As a former Chamber guest and speaker, we look forward to extending a warm Chamber welcome to Prime Minister Carney and his wife on their next visit to London.’’
This eNewsletter we focus on International Trade News with the Canadian economy reportedly softening ahead of the tariffs (RBC) which themselves are fracturing decades of economic co-operation (EDC). One strategy gathering a lot of attention and mentioned by the Prime Minister when he was in London recently is breaking down internal trade barriers to build Canada's economic resistance (Gowling WLG). The importance of Canada’s relationship with the UK in terms of trade is highlighted by the Conference Board of Canada. We include a recent bilateral agreement covering architects and a naval partnership between Canada and the UK. And finally, we also include two articles positing if Canada’s future lies in the EU or at least in deepening and furthering its relations with the EU.
