Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
At the end of April, the Government of Canada approved the Sunrise Expansion Plan, a major infrastructure project that will enhance natural gas transmission capacity in British Columbia. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to position Canada as a reliable global energy supplier, supporting its trade diversification goals and strengthening its ability to meet growing international demand for natural gas. You can read more on this here.
In the UK, the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) announced a series of measures aimed at reducing the impact of gas prices on electricity costs. These include reforms to the Electricity Generators Levy, the introduction of voluntary long-term fixed contracts, and more to support the move away from gas setting the price of electricity. You can read more on the announcement here.
This edition, our focus is on Energy. Recent market shocks alongside sustained increases in oil prices driven by geopolitical uncertainty, have underscored the critical importance of energy security for both Canada and the UK. By increasing capacities for self-reliance and resilience through developing homegrown nuclear power, to making use of natural resources instead of imports, Canada and the UK work to insulate themselves from uncertainty and external crises. You can read more on what steps have been taken in that direction below.

VBuddies builds three distinctive products from a single biographical data spine. VBuddies Memoir is a voice and text memoir creation platform for people aged 50+. Requiring no writing, a structured programme guides users through twelve life topics and produces a formatted memoir document that grows for as long as they have stories to tell. VBuddies Health gives memory clinicians and GPs continuous cognitive monitoring between appointments, with appointment preparation generated automatically. VBuddies Care automatically generates CQC-compliant care plans, briefs caregivers before each shift, and keeps care profiles current through an ongoing observation loop.
The company has filed a UK patent application (GB2609962.2) entitled 'Systems and Method for Cognitive Assessment', with 25 claims, marking a significant milestone in protecting its proprietary approach to biographical AI and cognitive assessment.
VBuddies is currently in private beta. VBuddies is currently raising its pre-seed round and is actively speaking with investors, memory clinic partners, care organisations, and research organisations across the UK and Canada. The company welcomes introductions and conversations from fellow Chamber members.
